Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and
you will help them become what they are capable of becoming.

NOTE: I'm publishing my daily post earlier than usual. I will publish a one-off post later tonight on the NH vote, although I've already speculated that Trump and Sanders, who have dominated the polls for weeks, will likely win.
Tweet of the Day
Trump is once again reciting his un-American slogan 'Make America Great Again'. I guess he got the idea of repeating himself from Rubio.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Trusting a crony capitalist like Trump with the US Treasury is like hiring Butch Cassidy as bank president: "Trust me, I know crooks."— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Hearing Trump talk about Obama reminds me of the proverb: "He left us and we rejoiced; then an even more unbearable person came."— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
NH voters, think of America first. Giving Trump a victory would make him more unbearable. I don't want to see his touchdown dance.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Shortages of workers and ST higher wages may lower production and provide an incentive to substitute technology. https://t.co/VYrl1vyNMa— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Labor protectionism (e.g., wage floors, migrant or occupational restrictions) ultimately fails. It harms the consumer and drives innovation.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Obama released a $4.1T budget spending plan. Dead on arrival. Any Republican voting for an Obama spending spree is begging to be primaried.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Twitter keeps promoting a tweet from Sanders on full-time employment and living in poverty. As kids we played sports for free;pros make M$s.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Is it fair for athletes to become rich? Yes, It's what the market bears for paying customers. Fair is determined by the market, not govts.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
When I was a teaching fellow, I taught 2 classes a semester, about half the faculty load. I made a few $100s/month, a fraction of a prof's.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
My spartan teaching fellow stipend gave me an incentive to complete my dissertation in 14 months and get a faculty appointment sooner.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
In the Depression, the government assigned crop quotas to manipulate crop prices. This may have helped farmers but not lower-income folks.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
In free markets, what's fair is what the consumer decides, not some political whore. It's not what the producer or employee thinks is fair.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
If Donald Trump wants us to be tough with alleged captive terrorist, all we need to do is to rebroadcast Trump speeches--torture if IQ>80.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016

Chris Christie's attack on Rubio during last Saturday's debate for repeating a line is as helpful to the GOP as his photo opp with Obama was— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016
Christie slammed a citizen rightfully criticizing the TSA, arguing what's inconvenient is his plane blowing up. No, Statist govs in denial.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) February 9, 2016

(5) the idea that government-subsidized health care will lower the cost of health care;Lady Gaga Gave an Amazing Interpretation of the Star Spangled Banner
(4) the notion that government must have monopoly control over the money supply in order to ensure sound performance of the economy;
(3) the belief that large differences among people in monetary incomes or monetary wealth reflect some market failure that ought to be ‘addressed’ by the state;
(2) the blind faith that government officials in democratic societies can be trusted to exercise power over people who economists do not trust to make choices for themselves;
(1b) the notion that welfare payments (other than EITC) subsidize employers by pushing workers’ wages lower, and
(1a) the notion that the minimum wage is, or can practically be, a boon to all low-skilled workers.

Jim Croce, "Time in a Bottle". My late second cousin Susie played this song repeatedly on the Christmas my family was in Germany. I was visiting my maternal grandfather, and he and my uncle priest usually spent Christmas at his nearby niece's home. I liked the song the first 2 dozen times she played it, but then it got really annoying. As a guest I had no right to complain--it was her house, but I was just amazed at the patience of the teen's family. To this day I cringe at hearing the song, Jim's second #1 ("Bad Bad Leroy Brown") which was released posthumously. (It's one of my quirks--like my aversion to animal crackers which I blamed for car sickness when my family moved to Florida.)
