Post #7682 M: Kavanaugh Hegseth Patel Bar Cold Open; Regulation Has Made Housing Unaffordable; Dan Hannan and The Case for Capitalism

 Quote of the Day

A wise and frugal government, \
which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement,
and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned –
this is the sum of good government.

Post #6327 M: Stossel on Southern Poverty Law Center; Why the U.S. Can’t Solve Hunger; McClanahan on Wokies and "Historic Preservation"

Quote of the Day

The latter part of a wise person's life is occupied with
curing the follies, prejudices and false opinions they contracted earlier.
Jonathan Swift

Stossel on Southern Poverty Law Center

Why The U.S. Can’t Solve Hunger

This tends to be more of a Statist approach to the issue. I want to emphasize some key points not being addressed, like zoning laws (e.g., food deserts), health or other regulations hampering charitable efforts, agricultural policies like market orders/quotas or import restrictions (e.g., sugar) that artificially restrict supplies and inflate prices, and decentralization of government food assistance (e.g., block grants) to state/local authorities. I could go on and on about dysfunctional policies like how Trump's NAFTA and FDA regulations blocked imports during the recent infant formula shortage,

Chicago's TWO Big Problems

I lived in the Chicago suburbs for nearly a decade from the mid-90's. I commuted to the city for 3 jobs plus it was my home base when I was a senior principal with Oracle Consulting. I congratulate new Mayor Johnson, but I'm deeply skeptical of his progressive policies.
