MacWilliams suggests that his authoritarian measure can help explain Trump's appeal to a large plurality of the GOP. https://t.co/VqlSq1JNaR

@AlexNowrasteh I'm not sure the MacWilliams' childrearing scale is a good measure. I would argue that Dem rulemaking should also correlate.

@AlexNowrasteh I do think that on both sides of the economic nationalism pitch, supporters feel a weak locus of control over circumstances.

Sanders argues that the State is not the problem: corporations control the State. Trump argues for replacement of the incompetent State.
— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) January 18, 2016
The economic nationalism of both Trump and Sanders presupposes the necessity of a strong State. They oppose liberalized trade, immigration.

Sanders' supporters don't know history. Trump supporters buy into the delusional notion that his experts are better than their experts.

I wonder what Trump will do when he finds far more jobs are lost in production efficiency than alleged zero-sum foreign trade: ban progress?

How Crony Unions Have Killed Illinois ManufacturingMorality and Markets: Part I
Political Potpourri
One new poll over the weekend: SC has Trump at 32, some 14 over Cruz, followed by Bush, Rubio and Carlson. It's been a while since I've seen Bush in the money but just barely. I've been seeing more commercials, including the Bush attack on Rubio's flip-flopping on immigration. More polls showing Trump losing to Clinton by 10, to Sanders by 15. NBC published a national Dem poll showing Clinton with a 25-point lead over Sanders--these follows others showing Sanders within single digits and closing the gap. I'm not sure what's going on with these polls.
George Will wrote a favorable column on Christie and an unfavorable one on Rubio. I still don't get Rubio's campus, which seems to be asserting himself at Mr. Neocon.
Election Betting Odds show Trump taking the lead from Rubio. Clinton has lost a little ground in the Dem race but an overwhelming lead over Sanders and just over 50% overall.
