Obama and the Imperial Presidency

Guest Post Comment: "And so it begins... Donald Trump to run on the Libertarian Party ticket instead of GOP?"

This has to be one of the dumbest things ever posted on this site. There is NOTHING libertarian about Trump's immigration restrictions, advocacy of nationalized health care, his advocacy of eminent domain abuse, he recently called for controlling the Internet, he's anti-trade, anti-privacy rights, he's pushing for expansion of the imperial Presidency, I could go on and on. Ron Paul has already warned Trump is a dangerous authoritarian.

I found this press release by the LP when I googled on libertarian opinions on Trump: "Libertarians vs. Donald Trump". https://www.lp.org/news/press-releases/libertarians-versus-donald-trump

Political Potpourri

Two newer polls since my last update: a Georgia poll and an Iowa one with dramatically different results. In George, Trump picked up 19 points since the prior poll, the exact offset of Carson's drop to 43 , nearly triple Cruz' 16 points followed several points behind by Rubio, Carson, and Bush. In Iowa Cruz makes his strongest showing to date at 31, 10 over Trump, followed by Carson and Rubio. At this point, it looks like Trump is first, Cruz is second, and a tie for third between Rubio and Carson; Carson seems to be fading fast, but Rubio seems to be struggling to be regain momentum, which is hard to do when Trump gets 25 times more free media coverage. I think Cruz and Trump are competing for a red meat political base; Rubio needs to present himself as a more electable alternative who appeals to people across the base.

Facebook Corner

(on a We Are Capitalists thread on the socialist Jesus Image of the Day)
Arguments I've seen on this page regarding the "evils" of socialism:

"Nobody should force a rich person to give away his money to a poor person."

Jesus: "Rich people, give your money to the poor or feel the wrath of Daddy."

Jesus sounds like an evil socialist to me - just like Bernie Sanders.
As to the troll OP: blasphemy is not attractive. Jesus, in fact, had wealthy benefactors. Jesus often exaggerated--a rabbinal technique to emphasize a point, e.g., turn the other cheek. I can point to numerous Old Testament verses which endorse hard work and God's blessing of wealth. Jesus's greatest commandment is to love God, not people. Loving people is a reflection of one's response to the grace of God. It doesn't imply the use of the State to steal or to engage in morally hazardous policy, even if part of the loot is redistributed to the less fortunate--there is no virtue in being looted, only for one's voluntary response to God for His Image in others.
Also as far as taxes go this is what Jesus had to say.
Pharisees asked Jesus a question: "Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought Him a denarius, and He asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. Then He said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." In full agreement, the Apostle Paul taught, "This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor" (Romans 13:6-7).
Oh my God, I've personally refuted this garbage so many times (FEE's Reed and others have, too) that it's amazing you retards still try to push it.

As to the coin issue, the Pharisees were looking for ammunition to use against Jesus. If He said, "Don't pay taxes" he would been seen as an insurrectionist; if He said "Pay taxes" he would have been seen as a collaborator. HE DID NOT SAY "Pay taxes". What he said was if you owed Caesar a debt, you should pay it. That's not the same as saying there is a debt. He wouldn't have gone through this teaching moment when He could have plainly answered the question. Second, He distinguishes between earthly kingdoms and heavenly kingdoms and makes it clear His is the heavenly kingdom.

Second, a number of people have responded to Paul's Romans (I think Bob Murphy, for instance, has multiple posts on it). One thing you should recall is that God's laws do not exempt rulers from God's commandments, as if God signed off on Hitler's Final Solution. Paul, like Christ, is worried more about the heavenly kingdom, not the earthly kingdom. Paul doesn't want the lust for personal power or treasure to conflate with one's obligations to God. Don't be an idiot: try to understand what you're reading.
He might be a libertarian socialist, but still not a democrat!
Not a socialist or a left-libertarian. Not a distributionist. He focused on individual salvation, not collectivist.
The first error I've seen from this page.

Jesus was not a socialist, but he was an altruist which is incompatible with things like capitalism, freedom, reason and individual rights.

The ethical framework of both Jesus and Sanders is the same, their political views might be slightly different but their fundamental ethics are the same.
No, retard. As you should know from prior WAC threads, the liberalized economics have brought more people out of poverty than you fascists and socialists.

No, Jesus focused primarily on unconditional love of God. Good for others is a matter of free will, not confiscation by the rulers that be. Jesus would be the first to tell you fascists that coveting and stealing a neighbor's goods is sinful, not virtuous.
You fuckers would have all roads privately funded wouldn't you...
Yup, unlike your fellow fascists, if we had a competitive road system, no one would pay for overly crowded, ill-maintained roads neglected by political whores and bureaucrats.

(Lew Rockwell). Media decline and fall.
Lew Rockwell is so pissed at the nefarious GOP leadership that he rejoices at an anti-liberty fascist like Trump. I thought he had Ron Paul's integrity to recognize the fact that Trump is a dangerous authoritarian. Note that Ron Paul is no longer a Republican. The Libertarian Party has issued a press release against Trump. I could point out numerous posts by Jeffrey Tucker, FEE, Reason, and others who have issued strong comments against Trump--none of them with a warm spot for the GOP elite. RCP's Trende points out "Contrary to popular opinion, Trump’s support doesn’t come from the most conservative voters; instead they tend to be moderate-to-liberal." Yes, Donald Trump is the ultimate RINO....

(National Review). Jonah Goldberg: "I would argue that his 'very conservative' followers aren’t supporting Trump because he’s a conservative but because he’s a walking, talking thumb in the eyes of 'elites' in the media and both parties."
There's no such thing as a "Trump conservative". The unprincipled, impulsive, unqualified, ill-tempered son of a bitch is an activist seeking to expand the imperial Presidency. As RCP's Trende points out, " Contrary to popular opinion, Trump’s support doesn’t come from the most conservative voters; instead they tend to be moderate-to-liberal. They are disproportionately not college educated, and are disproportionately young. " In other words, idiots, Trump is the ultimate RINO.

(Citizens Against Government Waste.) thread on USPS, argues it needs to jettison service expansion and focus on core services.
The Constitution guarantees a post office, but not a monopoly. That was created by the Congress and should be repealed by Congress.

(Drudge Report). Donald Trump Promises Death Penalty For Killing Police Officers
Premeditated murder by the State is unconscionable
