Trump and His Unconstitutional Proposed Ban on Muslim Immigration

Facebook Corner

(continued from yesterday's LC thread on guaranteed income)
The theft of wealth from taxpayers isn't justified, but if we're going to have welfare programs, this is a [more] just redistribution than the corrupt system that's going on now. Do you not agree?
No. I do agree a simplification of the status quo is necessary. But a guaranteed income is a disincentive to work and economic growth, the price tag for 320M Americans is staggering, even if and when you means-test it. https://reason.com/archives/2014/02/19/time-for-a-guaranteed-income

They are both clueless economic nationalists.

(Judge Napolitano). Trump's Muslim Ban - Unconstitutional
But There's No Explicit Prohibition to Ban Immigration From Specific Countries
Trump said TEMPORARILY ban muslim immigration. FDR did more than that for quite a few years. I feel we should stop all immigration until we can fix the system which does not work, close the porus border and then sort things out and get rid of the illegals that have criminal records. Also, end anchor babies.
God DAMN the fascist OP! The right to migrate is a natural right, guaranteed by our Constitution. You sorry, pathetic, amoral bastards! Unauthorized immigration is the result of special interest prohibitions. There are farmers in Alabama unable to harvest crops because of xenophobic resistance by busybodies. We need to liberalize immigration, you economic illiterate jerk!

(FEE). The United States Postal Service (USPS) lost $5.5 billion in 2014. That is the eighth annual loss in a row and the third-highest ever.
And even if USPS really did lose money, how is that an argument for privatization? No private company would be willing to take over mail service without guarantees of taxpayer subsidies.
A TRULY RETARDED OP! Of course, the private sector USPS could take the business without government subsidies; some things might change, like flat rates to remote locations--but then remote locations often find higher costs for goods and services. The USPS is generally shielded from competition, it is immune from local (property) taxes, various vehicle infractions, it takes out federal loans at bargain basement rates; it has productivity rates at a third of private sector shippers. All told, it is subsidized by some estimates up to $18B/year.

Political Potpourri

Another national poll (USA Today) putting Trump at 27, by 10 over Cruz just nipping Rubio and Carson a distant fourth. (The Outsiders have now polled for the first time below 40 that I can remember for months.) NC has Trump at 33, 17 over Cruz, with Rubio and Carson another 2 behind. I think now it's clear that Carson is no longer in first anywhere, with some signs he is starting to drift down the pack, but I continue to see this as a 3-way tie for second, with the momentum now on Cruz' side. Rubio and Cruz are now regularly hitting the late teens up maybe 5 points or so over the past few weeks. The USA Today also did some pairwise matchups with Clinton, and only Rubio beats her.

It's not that nomination battles are as plentiful as blackberries, but if I was a betting man, I like where Rubio is at this point. Trump and Cruz are too toxic to be competitive in the general campaign. While some polls suggest a majority of GOP'ers could see themselves voting for Trump, the fact is that he has failed to pull away from the rest of the field. Whereas I think that to some extent I could see Cruz or Trump sharing supporters, Rubio has a stronger appeal across the traditional issues-oriented base, so I can see him attracting support as others leave the race. I think electability matters to the base which hates Clinton far more than they may love Trump. I continue to hear warnings of Trump leaving the party for an independent bid and taking up to two-thirds of his supporters with them. I think these are exaggerated. I think the Muslim exclusion from the US was the final straw for Trump; he cannot recover from this. He is openly defying the cherished freedom of religion which is a step too far. He might even get a slight boost in the polls following San Bernandino. But I think his shtick of outrageous statements went too far; even late night shows are implying he's a fascist.
