Kevin Williamson of National Review does a piece on Hispanic Republicans in TX (like that white poverty piece). Will Trump kill the GOP in TX— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Williamson points out that Trump is so toxic to Latinos, all the Dems have to do is replay his vile garbage verbatim without comment.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Williamson notes that immigrants just want to be left alone. They start businesses, buy houses and trucks with their hard-earned money.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
I'm a fan of Daniel Hannan, who supports Brexit. His analysis of Obama's antagonistic view is spot on https://t.co/2HmYUU1Hoy— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Obama has suggested that Britain would go to the back of the trade queue if it pulls out of the EU. Speak for yourself, Fascist Barry!— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Every time I think Trump has said something stupid, Obama comes along and reminds us he is crazy, too. Trump is actually better on Brexit.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Clinton is also arguing against Brexit (surprise! surprise!).As if she thinks that 4 years as Obama's Secretary of State makes her an expert— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
What were the #NeverTrump GOP'ers thinking about recruiting tech/media billionaire Mark Cuban, who last year was enthusiastically pro-Trump?— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016

@AlexNowrasteh @DaliborRohac You are oversimplifying the issue. It's more than immigration and the European market.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
@AlexNowrasteh @DaliborRohac Adam Smith Institute does not take a firm position but it provides more nuance https://t.co/dHKRLkzVUi— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Today's topic seems to be Brexit. As a classical liberal, I'm away of centralized power; I want to see a devolution of authority to locals.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
At the risk of oversimplifying, there is not only economic but political integration with Europe, & the EU courts can strike down local laws— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
If Britain wanted a free trade pact with the US, it can't. It has to go through the EU middleman (TTIP). This is a managed trade deal.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
The EU negotiators need to gain consensus from other countries with various protectionist concerns (e.g., agriculture) which aren't relevant— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Now there are ways to integrate into the European economy without EU membership, e.g., EFTA/EEA.But Britain would lose influence in Brussels— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016

According to a report, Carson says that Sarah (I Quit) Palin is on Trump's short list for VP. More proof that Trump is insane.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
RNC Chair Priebus discusses #NeverTrump supporters as on a suicide mission. You know what's really insane? Nominating a guy 68% unfavorable.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
Apparently Romney and Kasich are uninterested in running on a #NeverTrump ticket; Sasse said with young kids, he's not ready. Too late?— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
About 18 months back, Government Motors started sending me recall notices. I thought I had it taken care of a year ago.GM continued spamming— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016

The story I was told was they had to close off a slot gap on the ignition key, that customers were attaching other things to the key.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016
This inappropriate use of the slot posed a safety issue, so they needed to seal the slot. Are you kidding me? How stupid are drivers?— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 15, 2016

I'm not sure what is going on this election cycle, but if the Dems are banking on winning the Congress and WH by default because of Trump...— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 16, 2016
There were 16 Republicans far more qualified than Trump, and they all lost to him. It's easy but risky to dismiss GOP voters as out of touch— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 16, 2016

Trump is blowing Clinton away in states like LA and WV. But he still gets blown away in the NE/mid-Atlantic. But he's polling closer.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 16, 2016
Election Betting Odds has Gingrich leading the Trump VP parade, Kaine over Warren and Castro on the Clinton side.Could Trump pull a surprise— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 16, 2016
Trump could do some unconventional like choosing Democrat Jim Webb for a unity ticket. I think that Gingrich was the ultimate insider.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 16, 2016
I think Gingrich would be a good pick for a variety of reasons, but it would contradict Trump's anti-establishment credentials.— Ronald Guillemette (@raguillem) May 16, 2016

Rod Stewart, "Downtown Train". Another of my all-time favorite pop songs. I knew Bob Seger was pissed because he was about to release his own cover when Stewart released his cover of the Waits classic. I never heard Seger's version, finally released a few years back, and it blew me away on first listen. I think Stewart's arrangement is more commercial (maybe I'm more used to it), but Seger's take is freaking genius: he sings the hell out of the song. I wish I could do that. The cadence, the vocal nuances, the interpretive twists on the chorus. If I'm Waits, I'm thinking, "Damn; he gets the song."
As for Stewart, this capped a great 80's; he is one of the few to transition through the disco era and continue to hit the charts with strong performances. He would go on to have a handful of other hit singles in the 90's we'll cover (I love "Broken Arrow" and his cover of the Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately"), but none of his solo stuff would reach as high as his #3 for this single.
