As I've written in the past, I think transacting or consuming recreational marijuana is a bad thing to do to one's body; I've never done it. But as a general principle, I don't think it's government's role to protect people from their vices, whether it's consuming too much sugary drinks, soliciting sexual favors or other things which are voluntary in nature. AG-nominee Sessions' prohibitionist standpoint threatens to unravel a measured restoration of federalism on the marijuana issue.
