Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life.

Congratulations to the 2015 World Series Champions, the Relentless Kansas City Royals!

After I dozed off during the KC come-from-behind game 4 victory Saturday, I was not about to do the same during game 5. With Harvey so dominant during the first 8 innings, I understood why he wanted to stay in and get a complete game shutout victory, which has become a rare thing in modern baseball given 4 or 5-man rotations and a key reliever staff, seemingly on notice after a starter puts in 100 or so pitches. I know in the weeks to follow, the Mets manager is going to second-guess his decision to let Harvey go into the ninth, overruling the pitching coach--and especially, with the base on balls, bringing the tying run up to the plate, he didn't lift Harvey then and there. You then have the RBI double, the runner pushed over to third--and then one of the most daring pieces of base running in World Series history, the third baseman fielder fielded a ground ball, checked the runner on third, and then threw to first base to get the batter out--only as the third baseman threw to first, the runner on third broke for home. A good throw home would have easily nailed the runner but the throw was up and away from home plate, allowing the improbable runner to score. I could just as easily be talking about how a reckless runner on third was tagged out to end the game.

I don't think there was any doubt to anyone watching the game, including most Mets fans, who was going to win the game. (It reminds me of a similar miracle comeback from the Red Sox in a memorable playoff back in 2004 against the Yankees.) It was just a matter of when. When the Royals staged a record 12th inning rally of 5 runs, it was just a formality to close out the game and the Series away from home: sweet revenge for last year's 3-2 close loss in the seventh game to the Giants.

This has to be one of the most entertaining World Series I've ever seen with at least 3 epic games and come-from-behind victories. The Royals are not my favorite team; familiar readers know I'm a Twins fan. (The Twins finished runner up to Kansas City in the Central Division.)

Political Potpourri

A confusing group of polls: NBC shows a 6-point lead for Carson over Trump, with Carson just under 30%, over the same time period as IBD's prior release with a 5-point lead of Trump over Carson. I'm somewhat skeptical of Carson at 30%, but I'm also skeptical of a Trump surge; from media accounts, Trump has been less of a factor in the last 2 debates; I think that Trump will keep the support of a solid 20% or so of the base for as long as he wants to stay in the race. It looks like Trump is trying to retool his image somewhat into an attempt to broaden his image; I think, though, it's a double-edged sword; he did not win his populist edge by being a policy wonk, and he risks losing his base if they start seeing him become just another politician.

A Democratic pollster sees Trump nipping Carson in Iowa. With Carson at or near two-digit leads in 4 of the last 5 polls, I'm skeptical. The poll does show Cruz rising to 14 points with Rubio at 10. The latest NH poll shows Trump down to a 10-point lead and Rubio at 13, just 3 behind Carson. However, just as the NBC poll shows, Rubio and Cruz, no doubt boosted by recent debate performances, seem to be stealthily rising to 2 digits with an increasing grasp of the third/fourth places in the field.
