Miscellany: 7/21/15

Quote of the Day
So, then, to every man his chance --
to every man, regardless of his birth,
his shining golden opportunity --
to every man his right to live, to work, to be himself,
to become whatever his manhood and his vision can combine to make him --
this, seeker, is the promise of America.
Thomas Wolfe

(Reason). It's a good thing the elected officials deciding on Uber's future in New York City are giving the company such fair and careful scrutiny.
You people are hilarious. Uber drivers have no regulations whatsoever. It's a joke, they are mostly unqualified drivers and there's 0 rules to protect consumers. I hope one of you gets assaulted by an unhinged, unchecked driver.
The economically illiterate, corrupt crony fascist OP actually wants gullible consumers to believe that the government "adds value" to the transportation market. No, the government manipulates markets against consumers on behalf of anti-competitive special interest taxicabs. The consumer benefits from more competition, more variety of services and competitive prices. Anyone who seriously believes that the government provides a guarantee of safety doesn't understand the scandal that brought down former Illinois governor George Ryan. Uber and related new age competitors know they can't grow their business at the expense of their customers' safety. Taxis have to resort to fascist, competition-killing regulations and fearmongering because they are obsoleted and do not have a competitive business model.
