Post #4495 M: Super Tuesday Results; Comrade Bernie's "Democratic" Socialism;

Quote of the Day

How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving and
tolerant of the weak and the strong.
Because someday in life you will have been all of these.

Biden's Comeback on Super Tuesday

As I write, some contests have not been called, in particular Texas and Maine, and I will likely publish before they are solved. It does seem Biden did not do well in certain western states where he had poor polling numbers, like CA, UT, and CO. But Biden won most of the rest of the country, including some states which were unexpectedly, especially Massachusetts and Minnesota. He also won across the south including AL, NC, AR, OK, TN, and VA.

I did some amateur punditry on Twitter, suggesting Biden could win 3+ states and had a shot at Texas. And let's be clear: I didn't have a lot of polling supporting those predictions at the time.

I did not predict as much momentum as Biden got (plus late withdrawal/endorsements by Mayor Pete, Senator Amy, and Beto O'Rourke. probably had an impact, particularly in MN). In part, there was a lot of early voting, which basically worked against a Biden surge.

Big losers on the night: Bloomberg failed to win a state, and neither did Cherokee Lizzie, who finished third in her home state of MA.

As a native Texas, I watched in amazement as Biden went from about 5 points down from Comrade Bernie at about 29% to about a 2 point lead at 31.5%. Now a third of the vote is still out, and it really depends where those remaining votes are, but over the past hour or two, Biden's lead seems to be expanding. In Maine, I've watched the lead flip back and forth by roughly 500 vote margins. As I type, Biden has stretched the lead past 1000, with a quarter of the vote outstanding. As in the case of Texas, it depends on where the rest of the vote is.
