Post #4054 M: Intolerance in Academic Leadership; Failure of Federal Higher Education

Quote of the Day

Do what thy manhood bids thee do, from none but self expect applause;
He noblest lives and noblest dies who makes and keeps his self-made laws.
Sir Richard Francis Burton

Intolerance in Progressive Academic Leadership

The condescending progressive college president is engaging in circular reasoning  No doubt Copernicus would not have triumphed in the Ptolemaic world under the status quo. The net effect of this college president is to rationalize censorship and suppress alternative points of view. Academia thus devolves into ideological propaganda.

Do I support Trump's executive order? No. I oppose Trump's intervention in higher education; this violates, among other things, my support for the principle of Subsidiarity, and Trump's intervention could be adapted by subsequent administrations with different ideological standpoints. Moreover, research efforts could be repressed not because of ideological preferences of researchers by the actions of others, not to mention enforcement might be easily manipulated and arbitrarily and disproportionately enforced.

Failure of Federal Higher Education

I have featured college critic Vedder before, e.g., a 2011 WSJ review I aummarized here.
