Miscellany: 10/01/15

Quote of the Day
Keep five yards from a carriage,
ten yards from a horse, and
a hundred yards from an elephant;
but the distance one should keep from a wicked man cannot be measured.

(Catholic Libertarians). The Russian Orthodox Patriarch said that armed intervention was necessary because "the political process has not led to any noticeable improvement in the lives of innocent people, and they need military protection." What say you?
So much for "blessed are the peacemakers"; hypocritical bastard Christian-in-name-only, a corrupt, enabling fool.

(Catholic Libertarians). Reporter: “In reference to funding for Planned Parenthood: Is an unborn baby with a human heart and a human liver a human being?”
Pelosi: “Why don't you take your ideological questions--I don't, I don't have—”
Reporter: “If it's not a human being, what species is it?”
Pelosi: “No, listen, I want to say something to you. I don't know who you are and you're welcome to be here, freedom of this press. I am a devout practicing Catholic, a mother of five children. When my baby was born, my fifth child, my oldest child was six years old. I think I know more about this subject than you, with all due respect.”
Reporter: “So it's not a human being, then?”
Pelosi: “And I do not intend to respond to your questions, which have no basis in what public policy is that we do here.”
Apparently her children are more equal....

(Reason). Vladimir Putin has sent Russian planes to bomb rebels in Syria. What should the Obama administration do? Let him.
No doubt Putin's "success" in dealing with the Afghans and the Chechens emboldens his intervention. Be really careful of what you wish for, Vladimir!

(Reason). Donald J. Trump announced that if he wins the presidency, Syrian refugees are "going back." "They're going back," he added. "I'm telling you, they're going back."
Trump, as usual, is a Know-Nothing know-nothing. What he's saying is unconstitutional. Once a refugee has immigrated under existing laws, he cannot be stripped of his naturalization. Trump also lacks any constitutional authority to evict 4 million American children.
(separate responding to trolls)
Quit equating Trump cultists with conservatives, idiots! There's a distinction between right-wing authoritarians/fascists and conservatives.
(separate)
[Troll] doesn't understand the difference among authoritarians, leftists, and populists. Right-wing populists may support some sort of social program, e.g., on the belief they've paid into it.

(FEE). If you favor immigration control, you need to grapple with this penetrating article. "Immigration controls are controls on people, and it is difficult to control some people without also controlling others." http://at.fee.org/1iOYNZM
Social Contract Theory is about establishing a moral agreement. Illicit immigration circumvents the necessity of that agreement. How can a person know what Society expects, if they don't attempt to consent to the local Social Contract? I tend to agree that enforcement hurts all, but doesn't abuse of our services and privileges also hurt us all?
"Illicit" immigration is an oxymoron, you moron. It's a natural right. You have no right to infringe the rights of other people.

(IPI). The tax man hath arrived, but he's not done yet.
The tax “explosion” that Emanuel warned about in mid-March hit Chicago Tuesday as the mayor unveiled his $7.8 billion budget for 2016, and it wasn’t pretty.
Ever notice how political whores wait until after their election to steal even more from your pocket?
