North Korea vs. the Cult of Obama

It's Rand Paul vs. Cuban-Americans Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Others

I've made it clear where I stand on Cuba--and it's the same position I held before Obama's recent initiation of normalization of relations with Cuba. I don't like economic warfare measures like embargoes. I don't like limiting visits to and from Cuba. The Cuba standoff is a curious Cold War era relic. It should have ended decades ago. I think it's very similar to the economic concept of concentrated benefits and diffuse costs in the sense maintaining the status quo is very important to the preponderance of anti-Castro Cuban-Americans like Rubio--and there are quite a few Cuban-Americans in Congress--including both Dems and Republicans.

Rand Paul seems to be calling Rubio out on the issue; I'm not exactly sure why he's doing it. There is still a strong anti-Castro/Communist sentiment among GOP hawks, and there's a reason 5 GOP Presidents didn't take the initiative. Whereas I support Paul on the issue, he's preaching to the choir. He's got a harder task ahead convincing older conservatives, not to mention the fact that Paul seems to be supporting a highly unpopular President.

Facebook Corner

(National Review). A large proportion of traditional, Mass-going Catholics don’t believe basic Church doctrine. Why not?
As a Catholic, I think that the teaching responsibility of the Church leadership has failed in the post-Vatican II era, not enough spiritual discipline, the Church has not prioritized doctrinal vs. humanistic concerns, the Church's response to the morally corrupt culture has been tentative and inadequate, Catholic universities have become less authentic to Church doctrine and morals, we've had a drop in vocations, especially sisters staffing lower education, and the number of Catholic schools is drastically shrinking.
