Should College Athletes Be Paid?
College football and basketball are de facto businesses and professional sports development leagues. At minimum, there're the opportunity costs that many student athletes give up in terms of work hours given up for practices, travel and games. With the exception of certain elite private universities, the marginal costs of most university college athletic scholarships are nominal. I favor an expanded stipend system and allowing student athletes to market themselves, e.g., endorsements and appearance fees.
