Little progress can be made by
merely attempting to repress what is evil;
our great hope lies in
developing what is good.

Out of the Mouths of Babes. . .

I stumbled across this video on Youtube the other day, and my heart melted. I think part of why this appeals to me is in my family's photo album, there's a picture of me leaning over the crib to give my baby sister (14 months younger) a kiss. The spontaneous display of affection of the older girl for her baby sister is endearing. I don't think the husband/dad is featured in this clip (he may have been recording the event), although I've seen him in another; interestingly, the older daughter has her mother's blond hair, and the younger seems to have her daddy's darker hair. Beautiful family... In the second clip I watched, recorded several months later, Baby Sophie is a good-natured sweetie, with a ready smile which lights up her pretty little face.

(Illinois Policy Institute). The latest talking point from the union-funded AstroTurf group pushing a progressive tax hike is that opponents of the measure are somehow “anti-democratic.” The hypocrisy here is rank.
Only in Barry Obama's Amerika can envy be considered a virtue. In their Marxist-borrowed ideology, they feel the success of others comes at their own expense, and so they rationalize using the State, which has a monopoly on force, to steal ever larger chunks of other people's income and wealth to redistribute back to them. They want to tax the other guy. Never mind that the elected and the bureaucrats act in their own self interest, instead of the pretense of the common good (as anyone aware of public choice theory will tell you: for example, a potentially useful drug may be delayed by regulators more worried about the impact on their careers if they approve a drug that encounters negative publicity post-approval. The majority of positive responses may be given short shrift.)
There is an inherent assumption here by crony unionists that existing expenditures by the State are both necessary and efficiently spent, departures from reality. Even Chuck Schumer, the senior US Senator from NY, distanced himself from state/local Robin Hood initiatives, pointing out wealthier New Yorkers could opt to relocate to a neighboring state. You aren't going to grow the Illinois economy through discriminatory tax policy that punishes economic success.

John Parr, "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)". Perfect pop anthem, every glorious note. I remember reading a movie review saying Parr's performance was the best part of the flick.
