On Why Libertarians Have a Hard Time Capturing Hearts and Minds

(Reason). People's movement across national boundaries ought to be free of government restrictions.
Every time a free market site posts a favorable immigration piece, we see the xenophobes and labor protectionists out in force, trying to rationalize a facade against the welfare state. We need to see more in these pieces about the compelling economic case behind open immigration and the Big Government agenda and the Bootleggers and Baptsts story behind immigration prohibition/restrictions.
Many of the newer immigrants don't speak our language, have limited skills, and only come seeking an easier life, at our expense
They'll have children here, who'll be american citizens, and guess who those kids will vote for?
Hint - they'll likely vote for the exact same police/welfare state that's destroying our country.
Immigrants with fluent English, STEM skills, or at the very least a strong desire to work and to better themselves should ABSOLUTELY BE WELCOME WITH OPEN ARMS.
But the emergency rooms, county welfare offices, prisons, and public schools of the border states DO NOT need to be inundated with Mexico and Guatemala's neediest.
We do not need to add any more millions to the ranks of our poor.
First of all, we have all sorts of jobs, including lesser-skilled. Many undocumented workers are willing to go to where the jobs are. Second, I don't know why anyone feels threatened by other people speaking in another landguage; if languages were an impediment, they would pick up what they need to know very quickly. I sorked on a project in Brazil several years back; I picked up enough Portuguese to get by; most waiters, taxi drivers, etc. didn't speak English. Third, you need to stop trying to make things worse by keeping employers from hiring the talent they need, businesses from customers; economics make a compelling case of win-win liheralized immigration. Fourth, many, if not most immigrants have a hard work ethic, are religious and aren't looking for handouts; if they won't vote for the GOP, it's because this anti-immigrant attitude, reflected in the OP, is a turn-off. Actually, the unions, part of the Dem base, are anti-immigrant because they worry immigrants will drive down wages. They are counter-balanced by the civil rights coaltion. Finally, immigration soared long before we enacted the modern welfare state. If and when they needed support, it came from the private sector. The idea that people migrate leaving behind their relatives, culture, etc., for a place with economic uncertainty, xenophobic neighborhoods motivated by an unsustainable welfare state is rather absurd. Most immigrants are younger, with a lifetime of economic contributions ahead of them.
