Social Media Digest

Here are some comments I posted in an open borders FB in an exchange with a troll who used the State of Israel's justification to restrict immigration to maintain a Jewish majority:

Assimilation occurs because we are social animals. Migration is a natural right.

Nope. We are talking individual, not collective rights.

Normally I will not respond to hypocritical trolls to make my point, and I think others have picked up on the core point. Whatever we may think of the post-Roman Jewish diaspora, Jews did migrate to their ancestral homeland centuries later, in many ways displacing others who had lived there since. But now Israel claims no comparable right for others? Since when did Jews have a "more equal" right to return? The real answer is a minimal government that promotes protection of natural rights.

Here's my response to a more recent threat focusing on what constitutes "open borders":

There's basically a cost-benefit analysis involving Statist papers. Who are we to keep families apart or to intervene against migrant workers and their willing employers? We could define away the problem simply be legalizing migration patterns like how Eisenhower resolved the issue. Obviously we would not tolerate a military invasion or possibly some health contagion but few other restrictions are morally acceptable.
