Quote of the Day

Ever felt an angel's breath in the gentle breeze?
A teardrop in the falling rain?
Hear a whisper amongst the rustle of leaves?
Or been kissed by a lone snowflake?
Nature is an angel's favorite hiding place.

(FEE) War, whether waged to hold human beings in bondage or subjugate a political rebellion, is a consciously coercive action of the political state in its most expansive and direct form.
Not a good piece at all. The fact is that slavery was incidental to the North's invasion. Lincoln was willing to guarantee slavery rights in the Constitution. Most of us are empathetic to the South's perspective, not because it embraced the dying evil institution of slavery but because a slave-free North sharing a long border would have made slavery unsustainable. We are more concerned about the principle of free association and the non-aggression principle. I find it ironic that a historian doesn't seem to have read Lincoln's inaugural address.
