Bad Judge of the Year Nominee: Judge Schaffer, Houston

Activist lesbian Houston mayor Annise Parker passed a popularly opposed politically correct transgender ordinance. The religious leaders in the Houston area were among those leading the effort for a petition to put the measure up to the voters. Basically, just over 17,000 votes were required to put the recall measure to the ballot. Pastors collected over 50,000 signatures and had pre-verified over 30,000. The city secretary stopped counting submitted signatures at around 19,000. The city "progressive" rulers then counter-attacked, aggressively striking signatures to a disqualifying sub-17,000 threshold and launched an anti-religious assault on the pastors, issuing subpoenas on pastor sermons. Judge Robert Schaffer, whose election was significantly supported by the LGBT community, gave his blessing to the city's anti-petitioner moves (including striking many senior citizens' signatures on agist grounds, i.e., shakiness).
