This is stupid, even for an economically illiterate leftist. The GOP had narrow majorities, certainly not filibuster proof. No, long overdue tax reform wasn't for the 1%; it was adjusting noncompetitive business taxes. Plus, it was temporary due to budget reconciliation rules.

Partisan rubbish. Trump has never been a conservative and is incompetent in bipartisan negotiations. The wall never had popular support, there were bipartisan differences in nature and extent of infrastructure, and conservatives rejected TrumpCare.

Partisan lunatic rubbish. Ginni Thomas has the same First Amendment rights as her husband; that's not stripped because he has lifelong tenure on the Court.

"Nominate Trump" for Speaker? Twitter users have a perverse sense of humor. Trump is exactly why the red wave became a red ripple and the GOP lost the Senate. If the GOP had won an average number of House seats at the midterms, McCarthy would have won Speaker on first ballot.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 4, 2023
You don't know the meaning of "RINO". Trump is a former registered Democrat. He is THE RINO.

No. "America First" is not a euphemism for socialism. It has more to do with non-interventionist foreign policy and bloated military spending.

Nope. Leftist economically illiterate rubbish. More globally competitive business taxes stimulated business investment contributing to business growth, jobs, and a higher standard of living. Of course, those who paid a disproportionate amount of taxes got some benefit.

Amateurish partisan analysis. The Republicans have majority+4 seats, a historically narrow majority. The Speaker can't afford to lose 5 votes. 90% of the majority has consistently backed McCarthy. He has a handful of Republicans who personally dislike him.

Interesting. I'm not sure of the differing rules but I've been watching the funeral mass on EWTN, and I saw nuns receiving their eucharists the old-fashioned way (on their tongues) but most of the faithful received it in hand.

Twitter needs to set policies to address the verification problem. For example, parody accounts should not be eligible for verification. A verified account requires embedding one's legal surname.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 6, 2023
The issue is if truck driver Ed Markey attempts to spoof the senator by using his photo, personal/professional details, etc. Now a complication is Twitter doesn't require you to use your own surname in your handle; another one is Twitter allows you to modify your handle.

— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 7, 2023
Sigh. I like Justin Amash; in fact, I follow him on Twitter. But let me point out here that he has personal issues with McCarthy and has written a string of tweets dismissing McCarthy's concessions to the (implied: politically naive) dissidents as meaningless. https://t.co/GxlzW1SpdQ
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 7, 2023
Well, I wonder how Trump feels, knowing Speaker Kevin McCarthy is closer to being President than he'll ever be again.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 7, 2023
Historically this has never been successful, and he would find it hard to why he voted "present" to let McCarthy become speaker.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 7, 2023
His vote didn't change. Of course, the change of the 4 no votes to present didn't require it.

Interesting to see the kerfuffle stirred up by Rolling Stone's list of top 200 vocalists. I do find it odd that Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson made the cut; I've got recordings of each, but they don't have the vocal range of a Roy Orbison (who thankfully made the cut).
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
So, the new House Minority Leader (literally) is "Obama 2.0"? Talk about damning someone with faint praise. I will admit Jeffries is just as overrated, boring and predictable as Empty Suit Barry.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
You need to get past your own issues with McCartney. He's got a razor-thin majority as it is and knows it will be tough to push any bill, never mind past a Dem-controlled Senate and a veto-bearing opposing POTUS. The idea he'll start by screwing his own base is pathetic and petty
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
If the partisan Dems had one overwhelming partisan issue last session, it was Manchin and Sinema sinking the Dems' priority of eliminating the filibuster in a split Senate. What the Dems could exploit last session was budget reconciliation. I think McCarthy will be forced to open
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
Justin Amash has sour grapes his goal of becoming the McCarthy alternative for Speaker didn't work out. Even pro-liberty pal Tom Massie backed McCarthy all 15 votes.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
What the devil is this all about? The government's war against raw/unfortified milk? Big Dairy has been fighting competition since at least Carolene Products. Never mind the debate over whether almonds have teats.https://t.co/MBvsOGtBIa https://t.co/ztmH0nwET7
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
I never expected Gaetz to flip. McCarthy's real problem was the 4 GOP "other" votes which figured in the majority vote. For some reason Rosendale didn't vote "present". If he had, McCarthy would have needed 431/2=215.5 +, meaning McCarthy had a majority at 216.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
For those clueless about the context, this was after the 14th vote, when Gaetz voted "present" vs. a flip to "yes". CNN had earlier reported Gaetz was going to flip. With a dead Democrat and Boebert's present, McCarthy needed better than 433/2=216.5. A Gaetz yes would make it 217
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
Oh, these weren't genuine tears, but staged, manipulative tears like you might see in movies.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
I don't think the caucus will risk reopening Pandora's box. I'm sure many of the 90% of the caucus consistently backing McCarthy were unhappy with his having to make concessions to seal the deal, but I think most want to focus on policy not process.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
Hell no. The federal government constitutionally has no authority to intervene in housing, education, or welfare.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
Not to mention your memory sucks. I remember when they kept the vote open during the Bush 43 administration to expand Medicare, also not constitutional.
Agreed. The federal government has no constitutional basis for public education intervention. The chance, however, of the Dem Senate and White House agreeing to end the Department of Education and education funding is negligible. I think McCarthy is signaling strings to aid.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) January 8, 2023
This is BS. Gaetz NEVER changed his vote against McCarthy until round 14. He voted present in both rounds 14 and 15. CNN reported before round 14 he had switched to Yes on McCarthy. So nothing happened post round 14 involving Gaetz. What changed in round 15 is the 4 no votes.
