The Real Incivility in the Texas Abortion Standoff

When Gov. Perry (R-TX) touched off a kerfuffle at a pro-life conference that pointed out late-term abortion advocate Wendy Davis and her mother were single mothers and Davis went on to earn a Harvard law degree despite having a child (this was a reference to the argument of convenience used to justify abortion), Davis and the national media portrayed it as a "personal attack demeaning the office of governor", I probably wouldn't have made the point. I do think there's a point to be made that Davis and her own child were "given" the God-given right to live that Davis was fighting not to recognize for other preborn babies. Politics is a tough game, and this comes with the territory, but Perry's comments do come across as condescending, and I think when you're male, you need to show a little sensitivity in making judgments about pregnant women. In my pro-life discussions I focus on the babies and if I express judgments, I try to focus on the abortionists and/or the ideologues.

But consider the following news blurb:
Unconfirmed rumors have been flying on social media sites all day that abortion supporters were planning to disrupt the Texas legislature by throwing feces, urine and used tampons at pro-life legislators. Now the Texas Department of Public Safety has issued a press release which appears to lend solid credence to the rumors. According to the release, DPS officials have "discovered one jar suspected to contain urine, 18 jars suspected to contain feces, and three bottles suspected to contain paint." In addition, they found "significant quantities" of female hygiene products as well as "glitter and confetti."
And there's this suggestion from a women's magazine:
A writer for the feminist magazine Cosmopolitan has suggested women might throw menstrual blood on Texas state senators meeting to pass stronger health regulations for the state's abortion facilities.
Strange, I don't hear the mainstream covering this like Perry's criticism of Davis....

Coming Attractions to Statist Regulations of Marriage?

Apparently in the heavily Catholic Philippines, there is a new law (apparently being appealed to the court) requiring a state-mandated family planning orientation prior to marriage expressing the nation's idea of 2 children per household. And you thought federal cronyism with Planned Parenthood under the Obama government was bad enough.... I can just hear them say, "You can do that?" Imagine the money they could make getting awarded this type outsourcing in the States....

The Zimmerman Trial Goes to Jury

I have not been following the trial that closely but the fact that the "judge" let them throw manslaughter in the mix is utterly pathetic. There is not a reasonable person alive whom can't believe that a man who suffered a broken nose and lacerated skull at the hands of Martin was acting in self-defense; it goes beyond reasonable doubt.  Other than a single-gunshot wound, there was no evidence Zimmerman hit or hurt Martin in their struggle, while there was some evidence of wear near Martin's knuckles; and yet the prosecution absurdly argues Martin was calling for help from what exactly? Hurting his knuckles hitting Zimmerman's head? Martin was taller, faster, and stronger; he could have easily run from the scene and avoided a conflict with Zimmerman. To me, it's clear that Martin--tragically--decided to confront the "creepy-ass cracker", not run away from him. Did he deserve to die? No. I don't think Zimmerman intended to kill him--I think he was under attack and injured by Martin and was trying to get away. He shot Martin once, not multiple times. I'm making these inferences from the facts as I understand them.

The police didn't have enough evidence to charge Zimmerman, but there's so much evidence that the Obama Administration was working behind the scenes, reportedly involved in anti-Zimmerman rallies; the Florida GOP governor also got involved. It's a perversion of justice this went to trial at all. The incessant speculation of race riots; let's put it this way--race riots on Obama's watch will taint his Presidency. When he personalized the Trayvon Martin tragedy, he violated professional ethics and effectively made a fair trial of Zimmerman all but impossible.

Mark Steyn has a far more derisive analysis of the Zimmerman trial, throw every piece of nonsense you can against him, and hope something sticks. You can almost hear Obama say 'we can't afford to do nothing about Zimmerman'...

Musical Interlude: My Favorite Groups Redux

The Beatles, "Yesterday".  In my view, the greatest pop song ever recorded. So how could I possibly tamper with perfection and risk the wrath of tens of millions of Beatles fans, if not Sir Paul himself? Maybe it's that the song seems to cry out for a long sax solo; the lyrics seem also a little rushed to me; in my head, I want the lyrics to pace like a long, lingering, soft kiss, as if he's reliving their last kiss over and over in his mind. What do I know? More people have paid for a copy of his music than I'll ever get to read a free blog...
