Post #3793: Happy Labor Day Holiday; Reagan As a Father

Quote of the Day

When you arise in the morning,
think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive
- to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Left or Liberal?

This is fairly convoluted and unconvincing in my view. Prager is trying, in my view, to divide and conquer today's coalition of leftists and modern social liberals. Here is my posted comment on the video:

This is wrong on so many levels. What is meant by "liberal" today is a departure from "classical liberalism" of the nineteenth century, which included economic liberalism, versus the taxation and regulatory State, the hallmark of today's form of social "liberalism", economic fascism, where individual rights (including property) are subordinated to the State. Traditional vs. modern social liberals also believe in open immigration and trade, which the social liberal Democrats have opposed for decades. The conceptual issue is more egalitarianism vs. equality. Don't forget that FDR, who Prager specifically cites, had advocated a second bill of (positive vs. traditional negative) rights; redistribution schemes are intrinsically fascist/socialist.
