 Pandemic Report

CDC weekly stats:

Although some states (e.g., California) continue to experience surging infections, the national summer wave appears to have peaked at lower rates year over year, but is stalling largely due to RFK Jr.'s politicization of vaccine approvals.  Recent vaccination rates were already down to about 20-odd % before he put a speed bump in front of younger, healthier individuals, in many cases needing a prescription and/or facing out-of-pocket charges of over $200 per shot. As I tweeted out Friday, I got the new Moderna 2025-26 COVID and my annual flu shots. Incidentally, a CVS poster I saw suggested free COVID shots for the uninsured.

Almost every COVID story I saw over the past week dealt with the third of states  that CVS and Walgreens won't cover without a prescription because of relative dependencies on CDC regulations. "The governors of Arizona, Illinois, Maine and North Carolina on Friday joined the growing list of Democratic officials who have signed orders intended to ensure most residents can receive COVID-19 vaccines at pharmacies without individual prescriptions." "[CT] Governor Lamont Announces Executive Actions To Protect COVID-19 Vaccine Access." "New Jersey becomes latest state to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines." "[DE] Governor Matt Meyer Directs Standing Order from DPH to Protect COVID-19 Vaccine Access." "California Breaks With CDC, Cosigns COVID Vaccine Guidelines From Medical Groups." "Minnesota, New York issue executive orders promoting access to COVID vaccines." "Hobbs issues executive order expanding COVID-19 vaccine access in Arizona." "NM health department provides COVID-19 vaccine prescription for all residents." "Illinois, Arizona, Virginia issue orders to improve COVID vaccine access." "Sen. Cassidy suggests Louisiana Surgeon General could prescribe COVID-19 vaccine statewide"

The corrupt RFK. Jr.'s latest anti-vaxxer attack is alleged data linking child deaths to COVID vaccines.

Other COVID news items of interest:

  • Legal or political issues:
    • "RFK Jr’s deadly COVID coverup.. CDC estimates indicate 1,231,440 Americans died from COVID-19. Kennedy’s attempt to discredit this data is likely an effort to justify his hostile actions against the health agency or to minimize the danger of the virus, which is still affecting people today. A few straightforward numbers from the Social Security Administration illustrate the credibility of CDC’s numbers. In the three years before COVID-19 arrived in the United States, the number of Social Security beneficiaries who died during the year had a flat trend: 2,351,959 in 2017, 2,377,978 in 2018, and 2,378,162 in 2019.. What happened in 2020? The number of beneficiaries who died surged to 2,772,037 — about 400,000 more deaths than in any of the prior three years. "
    • "When I got COVID, readers said it proved vaccines don’t work. What has RFK Jr. wrought?"
    • "As Covid surges in the US, Americans can’t get vaccinated: ‘terrified I might kill somebody; For 18-year-old student Zeke Fraser-Plant, the new guidelines heightened concerns he already carries daily. His parents and a close friend continue to live with long-term effects from contracting Covid: “My father has a lot of problems with brain fog. My mother loses her sense of smell completely. It comes back off and on.” His friend, who caught Covid as a teenager, struggles with memory.. Fraser-Plant’s his biggest fear has just been made stronger. “I’m absolutely terrified that I might kill somebody I know by bringing it home to them,” he said."
    • "Michigan to collect $2.7B from workers overpaid during COVID-19"
    • "Kaiser Permanente is preparing its rollout of the new COVID-19 vaccine regardless of federal guidelines that limit who should get the shots. The health care provider said it is making its new vaccine available to all of its members six months and older at no cost, contrary to new U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines that limit the booster to people over 65 and younger people with a chronic health condition that could be worsened by the coronavirus."
    • "FDA to present data it claims ties Covid shots to child deaths at CDC meeting."
    • "Florida residents struggling to get COVID vaccines after federal changes"
    • "They want COVID shots to protect their health or family. They can't get them."

Other Notes

Blogger stats continue to vary with more dubious pageviews starting mid-week. X reports I've earned 2.5K impressions over the past week, and my followers are up to about 217.

I'll probably expand this topic into a one-off essay or rant. I have never been a fan of Charlie Kirk, and I am not going to be a hypocrite just because of the tragic nature of his murder. As a Catholic libertarian, I oppose murder, full stop. But let's be clear: his right-wing rhetoric has been very divisive, and I have not cited him over the history of the blog. I'm not suggesting that this justified murder but it explains why many on the left did not mourn his passing. One X/Twitter user claimed proudly over 600 leftists have been fired over "celebrating" Kirk's murder; a Marine; 2 or 3  Clemson professors are being targeted with some Republicans threatening to defund the public university if they aren't fired (I've seen literally hundreds of posts over this). I oppose cancel culture from the left or right.
