Well, Facebook tried to censor me for the first time (most of my posts these days are reposts, sometimes annotated). The targeted post (from the group Government Sucks) focused on German taxes on tampons. I'm a bachelor; what do I know about tampons? What I didn't know is that this is a controversial issue which has been fact-checked, and Facebook is taking sides. Apparently years back Germany taxed tampons at a luxury goods rate of 19%. The Tampon Book was a workaround for which books were taxed at 7%. Finally Germany changed the tax rate in 2020. That seems to be what the kerfuffle is all about--the 19% tax is in the past. But it was a real thing, and a good example of how people work around bad public policy and sometimes forces its change.
Well, I'm back into single-digit followers, an annual low.
Not even Trump was stupid enough to call for regime change in Russia in a major speech overseas.

#BidenWorstPresidentEver
The idea that you are entitled to/spend someone else's money is morally corrupt and economically perverse.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 27, 2022
"Rick Scott"
Nope. You are no doubt referring to the Azov regiment, which is not part of the Ukraine military but part of its National Guard. It was started by ultra-right nationalists around 2014 but has since been "de-ideologized". https://t.co/mBAeFksYLh

The US lost a lot of moral authority by torturing Gitmo detainees. Zelensky has got to know the documented abuse of Russian POW's by Ukrainians plays right into Putin's propaganda machine and undermines his credibility in the eyes of the global community.

Hell of a March Madness tournament. St. Peter's Cinderella story came to an end, UCLA's brief trip reminded me of their dominance during my youth, and UH made its third straight Sweet 16 since the Phi Slama Jama years of my grad school days.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 27, 2022
Trump said that he could shoot someone on 5th Ave. and not lose a voter. Will Smith says, "That's nothing. I could slap the taste out of someone's mouth in front of a global audience, and no one is going to do a damn thing about it."

"Assault"
I cannot believe how many hypocritical bastards are trying to rationalize assault.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
"Good for Will"
What kind of BS is this? Since when is a bad joke morally equivalent to violence?
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
So comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Mrs. Smith playing lead in the sequel to (shaved head) GI Jane. Not a joke in good taste, but husband Will Smith lost his shit and assaulted Rock in front of a global audience. Not good.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
If that was "staged", Will Smith is a better actor than I give him credit for.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
Just another black-on-black crime statistic.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
I haven't gone to the movies much. How much do I know about recent movies? Well, when I heard Will Smith won for his role in "King Richard", I was impressed: a black actor doing Shakespeare? And then I found out that he played a tennis dad. Seriously, dude?
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
I don't know why Will Smith lost his mind over the Chris Rock joke. I thought Mrs. Smith looked very attractive and feminine with her shaved head. I didn't know about her health condition, but I've got nieces who have colored their hair in unnatural colors.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
There is no doubt who won Oscar night. Chris Rock got sucker-slapped in the middle of his routine and maintained his composure. Will Smith gives a subsequent empty apology, explicitly omitting his assault victim's name; I don't know how many people the "Best Actor" fooled: not me
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
I didn't see the SOB comfort the assault victim.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
Chris Rock proves himself to be the better man. The Academy, on the other hand, needs to step up and not allow this precedent to stand.

All these disingenuous excuses over Will Smith's assault of another entertainer. I didn't hear Rock making fun of say, some woman losing her hair over chemotherapy. The buzz cut for "GI Jane" was not for a woman in ill health; she was a strong woman.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
"Maybe Chris Rock"
For crying out loud, Chris Rock really didn't insult Mrs. Smith or mock her. He compared her to a strong female character.
— raguillemette (@raguillemette) March 28, 2022
An insult would have been more like, "Jada, could you put on a hat? The lights are reflecting off the top of your head, and I can't see."

"I'm not going to tell you. Why would I tell you?" -- Biden to Peter Doocy"

Because Biden made a public statement, and the press has an obligation to follow up. That's the whole purpose for a press conference. A "smart" Biden might argue that premature disclosure is unwise.
