The Nanny: Where Do You Draw the Line?

Guest Blog Post: "Thoughts on the Civil War"

No, the issue is not siding with the Confederacy. DiLorenzo, an authentic libertarian, is hardly an advocate of slavery; every other country resolved the issue of slavery without a civil war. One point raised by scholars is that the Confederacy had offered to abolish slavery in exchange for diplomatic recognition by England and France. This essay tries to flip on its head an unprovoked war on southern Americans; it disputes secession even as West Virginia was split from Virginia; it tries to argue Lincoln believed in individual vs. state rights--the same Lincoln who was dismissive of habeas corpus, who ruthlessly suppressed the press which opposed his policies.
